Self-care isn't just for Sundays!

Self-care is a big buzz word these days. It’s a common topic among new moms, parents and working professionals but sometimes I think we miss the mark in truly understanding what self-care is and what it isn’t.

Self-care isn’t just about scheduling a massage once a month. It’s about dedicating time EVERYDAY to check in with yourself and make healthy choices that bring more balance to your life. It often is portrayed as an indulgence when in fact it should be thought of as a necessity that everyone, women and men, should actively partake in on a regular basis. I like to think of self-care as a way of honouring yourself and your body. It takes time and dedication.

For me, self-care is:

  • turning off Netflix instead of watching another episode of “Workin’ Moms” because my alarm is going off at 6am the next day

  • saying no to that mid-afternoon coffee and instead grabbing a green juice or simply hydrating with more water

  • when I’m with my girlfriends knowing when to say no to that extra glass of wine

  • regularly scheduling visits for adjustments (yes I get adjusted too!), acupuncture, massage, check-in’s with my naturopath, reiki healing….(I do it all)

  • sticking to my commitment of working out 3x’s a week even when I don’t feel like doing it

  • knowing when I need to say NO and take a day of rest

  • having a healthy relationship with social media

  • appreciating myself for who I am and where I am in my life

So this weekend make an extra special effort to dedicate some time to loving yourself!
