What's in my fridge?
I have a lot of goodies in my fridge….on top of the typical stuff, I make an effort to have pre-cut veggies so there are healthy snack options at the ready, filtered water, yummy fruits, sliced lemon wedges for my morning start and all kinds of nutrient dense food options. But do you have this in your fridge?
Magnesium Glycinate?
It’s the best! It has become a staple in my nightly routine, especially during this cold and often hectic holiday season.
Magnesium is a vital nutrient for the body, it is important for healthy muscle and nerve function, regulating blood sugar levels and blood pressure. I often recommend it to patient’s that have a lot of muscle tension, high stress levels, difficulty sleeping and it’s great for pregnant women too. Magnesium deficiency’s are often overlooked but are more common than you think. Due to a rise of chronic diseases, overuse of medications, decreases in food crop magnesium contents and the availability of refined and processed foods, the vast majority of people in modern societies are at risk for magnesium deficiency.
If you looking to boost your magnesium intake with magnesium rich foods, look to add more dark green leafy vegetables, avocado’s, dark chocolate, legumes, nuts and seeds. Personally, I like to have a liquid supplement in my fridge. I take 1 tablespoon (= 250-300mg) approximately 2 hours before bed, every night. It works wonders to calm down the body, particularly the nervous system and helps you have a more restful sleep.
